Who is Worthy?

In the presence of the holy and perfect God, who can stand? Who is worthy to approach Him, to be in His presence, to receive His blessings and eternal life? The question echoes through Scripture and through every human heart that honestly seeks God.

Who is worthy to open the scroll and to break its seals?

— Revelation 5:2 (paraphrased)

Heaven itself fell silent at this question. No angel, no elder, no created being was found worthy. The scroll — representing the title deed to creation and the plan of redemption — could not be opened by any human effort or merit.

Then One stepped forward: the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David — Jesus Christ. He alone was worthy because He had triumphed. He had conquered sin and death through His perfect life, sacrificial death, and victorious resurrection.

Worthy are You... for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation...

— Revelation 5:9 (paraphrased)

Jesus is worthy because He paid the price we could never pay. But here is the astonishing grace: when we place our faith in Him, His worthiness becomes ours. We are not accepted because we are worthy in ourselves — we are accepted because we are in Christ, who is worthy.

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

— 2 Corinthians 5:21

So the answer to "Who is worthy?" is both simple and profound: Jesus Christ alone is worthy. And because of Him, we who believe are counted worthy — not by our works, but by His finished work on the cross.

This truth frees us from striving to earn God's approval. Instead, we rest in His worthiness and live in grateful response to His grace. We are worthy to stand before God, not because we have achieved perfection, but because Christ has achieved it for us.

Rest in that truth today. You don't have to prove your worth — Jesus has already proven it. You are loved, accepted, and welcomed because He is worthy.
