Freedom in Christ
Entering a Personal Relationship with God
Being "in Christ" means having a real, living relationship with Jesus. Though He lived as a historical person, He is the eternal Son of God who predicted His death and resurrection. Today, He communicates with people spiritually.
Every person has a body, soul, and spirit. The soul includes the mind, will, and emotions. The spirit is what makes humans unique and gives moral consciousness. God is Spirit, and He created us with a spirit so we can connect with Him in relationship.
We are not born into relationship with God. Sin creates a barrier between us and Him — a barrier of moral failure and tendencies that fall short of God's perfect standard.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
— Romans 3:23
The result of sin is separation from God — spiritual death.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
— Romans 6:23
But the good news is that God offers forgiveness and eternal life as a free gift through faith in Jesus Christ.
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
— Romans 10:9 (NKJV)
When you receive Jesus by faith, a complete change begins.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
Jesus took your sins on the cross so you could receive His righteousness.
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
— 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV)
